The Complete Substances & Hazard (Health & Safety) Diploma
Health and safety is a key issue across all industries. Good health and safety practices reduce the risk of accidents, illness and death. A safe working environment also improves employee morale, reduces the number of days taken off sick, lowers staff turnover and enhances a business’ reputation as a desirable place to work.
This bundle addresses some of the most common health and safety concerns found in the workplace, including carbon monoxide and construction dust. These courses will help you fulfil your obligations under health and safety law. You will learn about key Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines which should form the backbone of your health and safety policies.
What You Will Learn
This combined course includes the following:
- Asbestos Awareness Certificate
- Blood-borne Pathogens & Exposure Control Plan Certificate
- Carbon Monoxide Awareness Certificate
- The Dangers of Construction Dust Certification
- Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Certification
- Legionnaires’ Disease Awareness Certificate
- Sharps Injuries Awareness Certificate
Asbestos Awareness Course
Asbestos can be found in many UK buildings. Banned in 1999, asbestos is known to cause serious diseases including cancer. Therefore, it is a major health and safety hazard. It is important to note that this course does not qualify you as an asbestos specialist. However, it will equip you with all the working knowledge you need to uphold health and safety guidelines in the workplace.
This course provides you with an overview of the history and uses of asbestos. You will learn about the risks associated with the different types of asbestos, how you can protect yourself and others from its effects and the legislation that governs how people should work with this material.
Blood-borne Pathogens & Exposure Control Plan Certificate
Anyone who is exposed to blood during the course of their work needs to be aware of the dangers associated with blood-borne pathogens. Blood-borne pathogens can cause serious diseases, including hepatitis. To mitigate this risk, you must implement a suitable Blood-borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.
This course will show you how to devise and write such a plan, taking into account the specific risks faced by employees at your place of work. It will address the information you must include, how to incorporate the plan into employee training programmes and how workers should respond in the event of an exposure incident.
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Certificate
Carbon monoxide is a tasteless, odourless gas that can kill within hours. Known as the “silent killer,” it is a serious health and safety concern. This course will teach you how and why carbon monoxide is so harmful, why it should be addressed in every health and safety plan and how to mitigate its effects.
The course will help you undertake a risk assessment to gauge the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning and install suitable warning systems. You will learn how to spot the early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and how to liaise with third parties to prevent a recurrence.
The Dangers of Construction Dust Certification
Construction dust can result in serious health conditions, such as silicosis. It can also play a role in the development of lung cancer. Therefore, anyone who works with or encounters construction dust at work, needs to be aware of these risks and take suitable preventative measures.
In this course, you will learn about the types of construction dust people encounter in the workplace, the role of Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) in reducing the risk of harm and why ongoing health surveillance can detect early warning signs of health problems.
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Certification
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations are a broad set of laws that address the risk posed by harmful substances. Even workplaces that appear safe and clean, such as offices, can contain hazards.
This course will teach you the nature and scope of COSHH regulations and the consequences of noncompliance. You will learn how to carry out a risk assessment and use the findings as the basis for health and safety policies at work. You will also discover how to monitor exposure to these hazards.
Legionnaires’ Disease Awareness Certificate
Of the 300 cases of Legionnaires’ disease reported in England and Wales each year, most occur in the workplace. This bacteria grows in water systems, and those working with these systems are at particular risk.
In this course, you will learn about the conditions most likely to promote the growth of harmful bacteria and how you can conduct a risk assessment to gauge the likelihood that your systems will facilitate its cultivation. You will learn how to take preventative measures and how to test for the presence of bacteria.
Sharps Injuries Awareness Certificate
Sharps injuries, which are most often seen in health and social care settings, can cause lasting damage to a person’s physical and mental health.
This course will teach you how sharps injuries occur, why they are dangerous and the most common scenarios in which they occur. You will learn how to train employees to use sharps in a safe manner, how to dispose of them after use and how to respond following a sharps injury. You will also learn how to keep records of all incidents.
